Am I A Candidate for Transgender Top Surgery?
Top surgery is for those wishing to change the size, shape, or appearance of their chest. This surgery can be:
- Female-to-male (FTM) or female-to-nonbinary (FTN) top surgery, which involves removing breast tissue and contouring the chest to reflect a flat, masculine, or male appearance.
- Male-to-female (MTF) or male-to-nonbinary (MTN) top surgery, which involves using saline or silicone implants to increase chest size and augment the shape in order to achieve a more feminine or female appearance.
Candidates for transgender top surgery are those who have seriously thought of and considered the internal and societal implications of beginning a physical transition to another gender. Candidates must also have realistic expectations of surgery and be in reasonably good health. A conversation with your doctor about your medications, alcohol and tobacco use, and medical history will be completed prior to surgery. This can help your doctor anticipate any complications.
