Eyelid Lift (Blepharoplasty)
Candidates For A Eyelid Lift
Upper and lower eyelid lifts can be performed together or separately depending on the needs of the patient. For patients who feel as though their eyes are sagging and tired looking, an eyelid lift is a wonderful solution. A blepharoplasty will improve the contours of the eyelid area and face, while restoring a youthful appearance.
Periorbital rejuvenation often consists of either an upper or lower blepharoplasty or both. An upper blepharoplasty removes excess skin from your upper lid so that you can have a crisp eye shadow space. An incision is made in your natural lid crease that is very inconspicuous once healed. Additional fat removal may be indicated as well from this region.
On its own, an upper blepharoplasty may be performed under local anesthesia in the office or under general anesthesia in the operating room, especially when combined with other procedures and when fat removal is necessary. Lower blepharoplasty involves removal of excess skin and “bags” from the lower eyelid using an incision just under your lashes which generally heals without a visible scar. This also often involves fat removal or repositioning, as well as shape restoration to achieve a more youthful, rested appearance.
Many times a lower lid blepharoplasty is combined with a cheek lift to achieve a smooth blending of the lower lid and cheek junction and to correct a hollowed appearance of this region.
Blephoroplasty is performed under general anesthesia. General recovery time is 1-2 weeks. Swelling and bruising are expected during the first couple weeks and reside thereafter.
